Eagles Open Age End the 2018 Season with a Promotion to the Next Division
After a successful 2018 campaign in the Open Age Merit League, with a young Elmbridge side winning 5 games from 5, they fell at the final hurdle.
The Elmbridge Open Age team looked to complete an unbeaten season in the Merit League, away at Richmond. However, Elmbridge just came up short losing to a try in the last minutes of the game, which saw Richmond victorious 34-32 in the Graham Hill Memorial Trophy. The memorial trophy game has become a season closing annual fixture between the 2 neighbouring clubs at Open Age level and the end to end game also, saw the grandson of Graham make a ‘cameo’ appearance, while former long serving coach of Richmond, Alan Hill was also in attendance.
Elmbridge Club Captain George Sanderson, commented ‘It’s been an enjoyable season on the field for the club, but also all the best to Richmond for just grabbing the win at the closing stages of the game’.
The team ended their campaign as winners of the Merit league and will now be promoted to the next division in 2019.
Also at this final match of the season, the End of season Awards were voted on by all the players and presented as follows;
